Subject: Brazillian immigrating to Canada
Hi, I am Canadian and I have been working on cruise ships for a year and a half with my boyfriend who is from Brazil. We now want to start a life on land. We are not married yet, but intend to do so in the future. Would it be easier for him to move to Canada if we get married right away? If he applies for the family resident visa, can he live in Canada on a temporary resident visa while he waits to be approved for the permanent visa?
I appreciate any help that I can get. I am on the cruise ship now, and can only get information from the internet.

Re: Brazillian immigrating to Canada
If you get married to him, the sooner the better. Because this would make things easy for you. Spousal sponcer ships are considered as priority and woulkd be granted residency visa quicker than the other applications.
By the way, he could apply for a visiter's visa while the process is on the move. look at www.cic.gc.ca
